From humble roots of putting Mermaids together we had a vision and there was a niche gap in the market for high quality, low value hair accessories creating volume sales for retailers.
With a service for merchandising backing this up and recognising that all retail outlets have different customer bases; our flexible approach enables us to target your customer with the best and most suitable selling lines.
We believe our quality is second to none and the difference is in the detail and effort we put in to the simplest item checking a multitude of points:
The over all look of all the products is highly important.
Keeping abreast with colour trends and forecasting future hot selling lines for every season.
We avoid selling items that have sharp edges and do not supply goods for age groups under 36 months, to not encourage the use of small items for babies.
Try to make certain the products last and do not fall apart thus ensuring the customers return and stays loyal to the brand.
Working with companies complying with EU directives on materials and what they should or should not contain.
Our aim is always to simplify making everyone’s life easier with every item containing a single barcode to scan making stock control foolproof. Our products are all at one price saving any confusion and your staff time in not having to price individual items.
Although primarily supplying UK retail outlets, we do have customers within the EU and Worldwide as far as Africa and Canada.
My background is in engineering as a toolmaker & injection moulds. I was made redundant in my early 20’s, after which, I moved in to selling Fashion Jewellery. Some 25 years ago I set up Libra UK Jewellery and after becoming ‘Limited’ and bringing with me my partner in life and in business, Ilona, we incorporated our brand Mermaids Hair Accessories. I am the excitable one, scatty and always full of new ideas but luckily Ilona keeps me grounded. I love cooking and the great outdoors and have a passion for skiing.
I started out as a Nurse RGN – RSCN before taking a leap of faith to join Libra UK Jewellery. This new direction looked exciting and has enabled me to use my love of art and textiles. I am often up late in the evening with sample materials, my sewing machine and glue gun, putting together next season’s lines. I have a love of sports and push myself too far sometimes with hill climbing and coast to coast cycling. Back in 2010 I was lucky enough to be able to take some time out from work to participate in the Base Camp Mount Everest walk.
